Charlotte Day of Fun Part 2

Here is what we did on Sunday:

After walking Watson around the neighborhood and eating a nutritious breakfast from my new favorite fast food joint, Bojangles, Martha and I headed over to Nordstrom for some boot shopping.  I purchased a pair of Frye's that I have been eyeing, but will probably get buyers remorse and return them:(

By noon we had picked up Katherine and were headed to Uptown to rent bikes for the day.  Laura joined us and we were off through the city!  The bike rental concept is a good one, it's an excellent way to see a city and get some exercise at the same time.  The weather could not have been more perfect.  Here we are with "the pea".  Chicago has a bean, Charlotte has a pea.

We road the bikes to Festival in the Park where we devoured some delicious fair food for lunch and took a spin through all the vendors.  We returned our bikes and were off to get mani/pedis.  I'm the one of the left with the alien feet:)

Next up Martha and I headed to Pinkberry and I got to use my full frequent buyer card that I have been hoarding for months.  All other yogurt shops are posers, Pinkberry is where it's at.  This is peanut butter yogurt with nutella, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate shavings and a waffle cookie.

Then Martha spilled her crack on the sidewalk.  Hahaahaha.  I kid, I kid.  We are as drug free as they come.  And, yes we wore the pedicure flip-flops to get Pinkberry.

To cap off Charlotte Day of fun we went to a wonderful Italian dive called Zio.  It was GOOD.  I ordered the pasta maria at Will's recommendation and it didn't disappoint.

I finished up the day by introducing Will and Martha to my new favorite TLC show, Breaking Amish.  I think they DVR'd the whole season:)  I do what I can to make others happy, you know?
I had the best weekend thanks to my sweet cousins.  Special thanks to Will and Martha for housing me and feeding me too:)
Fun fact of the day: Tommy Lee Jones and Al Gore were freshman roommates at Harvard.  I bet that was interesting.

Charlotte Day of Fun Part 1

I visited my cousins this weekend in Charlotte, NC.  We had not seen each other in a while and it was so great to just spend time with them like the good ole days:) In fact we had so much fun I had to break it up into two posts.

To preface, my cousins Martha, Katherine and Laura all live in Charlotte.  Martha and her husband Will just got a new golden doodle pup named Watson.  It's he just a doll?

Also, Martha and Will have done a lot of work to their super-cute house since my last visit including painting their kitchen cabinets, new appliances, new tile floor and adding a tile back splash.  Will did all the work himself!  I really love their kitchen.  Also, notice the stool; Martha is a bit shorter than most.

Here is what we did on Saturday:

8:00 am - Hot yoga.  This was my first attempt at any type of yoga so the 142 degree room temperature was a little shocking.  Martha and I were far from the worst ones in the class but there is a still a lot of room for improvement.  We especially need to work on our wheels.  I sweated out a good two pounds so I'd call this experience a win, even though the assistant laughed at us in the parking lot when we got to in the car and immediately pulled down the visors to check out our hair.

9:30 am- We hit up a breakfast food truck.  It was delish.  I fell in love with a rescue pup named Magoo who only had one eye.  Thank goodness I came to my senses and didn't bring him home to TN!

1:00 pm- We headed to Carolina Golf Club to have lunch with my friend Jessica and her boyfriend Jeremy.  Jessica is new to Charlotte and I introduced her to my cousins so they could help her get acclimated.  The weather was beautiful and so was the company!

3:00 pm - Aviation Museum.  Laura met up with us to head over to the museum.  We saw the plane that  Captain Sully landed in the Hudson, watched a 40 minute documentary on the events of that day, and got to sit in the cockpit of a Vietnam fighter jet.  They kicked us out at closing time, gosh we're cool.

4:00 Queens campus visit -  We stopped by the campus of my cousins' Alma mater, Queens University, so I could visit Miss Anne.  Miss Anne and her little dog Dan have been featured in many a Charlotte family photo.  She recently got a new home, so I wanted to stop in and see her new digs.
Here is an artistic shot of Miss Ann and Queens campus

8:00pm - Dinner.  We went to dinner at a place called Cowfish.  They specialize in having the best of both worlds, sushi and burgers.  I got a bento box that featured a mini gouda cheese burger, sweet potato fries, edamame, and a shrimp tempura roll:)
10:30 - Selwyn Pub.  We only lasted about 45 minutes at the pub, but we had a fun experience where everyone around us was extremely tall.  It was a little bit like being thrown into a an NBA/WNBA mixer.
11:30 - We taxied home and got ready for Charlotte Day of Fun #2.  Stay tuned, it's a big one.
Fun fact of the day:  Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, never telephoned his wife or mother because they were both deaf

Phone Photo Clean Up

I went through my phone photo gallery last night to delete some unnecessary photos.  These are some jems I found along with a little explanation.

I think this was in Vegas.  Poor Woody is all alone.  I wonder what he's got in that bag?

I found this beauty at an antique store in Dickson, TN.

When my dad came to visit, I guess he needed a good place to put his gun.  A miniature pink baking dish is the perfect solution, no?

I think this is my knee.

This really makes me want to buy a motorcycle jacket.

I stood behind this couple to check a bag in Orange County.  They were going on their honeymoon.  The woman is on the left and the man is on the right.  I did not make this up.

I took this picture at a concert, and I think it is amazing.  I would sell it to Getty Images but I have no idea who the band is.

This is my Grandma's sheriff duck.  He patrols her screened porch.
This is my friend Jen doing a little vacuuming before last year's Christmas party.  Yes, my vacuum has a headlight, because people frequently vacuum in the dark.

Fun fact of the day:  Frank Baum got the name Oz in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ from his alphabetized filing cabinet (O-Z).

Welcoming Fall

I love fall as much as the next girl, in fact it is may favorite season.  But, while everyone else is obsessed with pumkin spice lattes, autumnal candles, porch pumpkins and fall wreaths, I give thanks for the return of another wonderful cool weather companion, socks!  After months of flip-flops, wedges, and strappy sandals my feet rejoice in their cozyness, my toes sing their praises.  Nothing feels better than that first cool day when you can throw on some sweats and a pair of socks and hit the couch for a reality show marathon. I <3 socks.

Fun fact of the day: Red and purple leaves are actually caused by the presence of sugars from sap that is trapped inside of the leaves.

New Things

I got a new lamp.  I think it is lovely.  The lamp is from Homegoods and was a great deal at $39.99.  Unfortunately the shade is from Pottery Barn and cost more than the lamp.  Booooo.

I also made this fancy dry erase calendar for my cube at work.  I bought the dry erase board at Target and the ready-made frame at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 price.  All I did was make sure the board and frame are the same size and then hot glue that sucker in there.  Thanks to Kaitlin for the idea:)

Fun fact of the day:  Istanbul, Turkey is the only city in the world located on two continents.

It's Mine

I finally made a deal with the lady I had been bargaining with over the table and chairs.  It was delivered this week.  I love it!  Now I'm thinking I should paint my little buffett.  But, what color?  White, grey, dark mustard yellow color?

Fun fact of the day:  Pringles aren't really potato chips.  Pringles have only about 42% potato content, the remainder being wheat starch and flours (potato, corn, and rice) mixed with vegetable oils and an emulsifier.

Running of the Weenies

On Saturday I attended my first Running of the Weenies event at the Germantown Festival.  It was hilarious and incredibly adorable.  I love weenie dogs and was happy to accompany my friend Nicole and her boy, Walker Texas Weenie.

While Walker did not participate in this year's race.  He was inspired to get in shape and train for next year.  Couch to 5k is on his radar.  I smell a winning weenie in 2013.

Here is a bonus photo of one of my neighbors just killing a little time at the grocery store before church.  I have really nice neighbors.

Fun fact of the day:  The Dachshund was bred to hunt badgers. The word dachshund means "Badger Dog".

Classy Clarksville

Enough said.

Fun fact of the day:  Oak trees don’t produce acorns until they are 50 years or older.  Happy almost fall.

Major Announcement

Do you notice anything interesting about this photo of my family?  I mean, besides the fact that we all look like exotic super models and that the little one down front is threating a knuckle sandwich?  Hopefully you won't have to look too closely to see that there are no boys.  In the last 62 years my family has welcomed only girls, 15 of them to be exact.  Of course there are some boys or there wouldn't be new girls, but we marry 'em not birth 'em.

Well, things are about to change around here!  My sister is expecting a BOY due in February. The ultrasound guy said he was 95% sure it was a boy, so I'll take that.  Stay tuned, there is a 5% chance I will be announcing the birth of my niece in the next couple of weeks.

Fun fact of the day:  According to the US Census Bureau, there are 97.2 males for every 100 female in the US.  Alaska has 108 males for every female, the most of any state.  Maybe I should move to Alaska.
